Accessibility

Western Range Club is meant to be usable by every person who wants to hunt, including people who browse with a keyboard, a screen reader, a magnifier, voice control, or a switch — and people who simply need larger type or less movement.

The club’s readership skews older than most, which is not an afterthought here. The whole site is set a step up from the usual 16px default, and a step up again on a phone, because it is read at arm’s length in daylight rather than screenshotted.

This site aims to meet WCAG 2.1 Level AA. It is currently partially conformant: most of the standard is met and verified, and the specific things that are not are listed below rather than left for you to discover.

“Partially conformant” is the honest word. Nobody certifies websites as accessible, and a claim of full conformance would mean claiming tests that have not been run.

• Every page works with JavaScript disabled. Entrance animations reveal immediately rather than leaving blank space.
• Every interactive element has a visible focus ring, in the brand’s own colour rather than the browser default.
• A skip link is the first thing a keyboard user reaches on every page.
• All motion — the drifting land, the pinned sequence, the reading rule — stops for anyone whose system asks for reduced motion.
• Text contrast is held above the AA threshold deliberately, not incidentally: on the light grounds the ink runs at 66% opacity or more, because below that it lands under 4.5:1.
• Photographs that carry meaning are described. Photographs that are atmosphere are marked decorative, so a screen reader is not made to read out a picture of a hillside.
• The page is one column of readable text at 320px wide, with no sideways scrolling.

Last assessed 3 September 2026, by self-evaluation:

• Automated testing with axe-core against WCAG 2.0, 2.1 and 2.2 at levels A and AA, across every page at desktop and phone widths.
• Keyboard-only navigation of the whole site, including the navigation panels that open on hover — every link in them is reachable by tabbing, and none can be focused while its panel is closed.
• Reflow at 320px, target sizes against the 24px minimum, form labelling, and autocomplete on every field that has a defined purpose.
• Text contrast computed against the actual rendered background on every section, rather than eyeballed.

These are the gaps we know about. If you hit something that is not on this list, we would genuinely like to hear about it.

• Screen readers have not been formally tested. The site is built to the standards screen readers rely on, but it has not yet been walked through with VoiceOver, NVDA, or JAWS by someone who uses them daily. That testing is planned before membership sales open.
• Text-only zoom can crowd the navigation. Full-page zoom works to 400%. Browser settings that enlarge text without scaling the page can push the desktop navigation bar out of alignment.
• Photography is generated art direction and will be replaced with real property photography. Descriptions will be rewritten to match when it is.
• The member booking experience is not covered here. Discovery and booking run on HunterPass, a separate platform with its own accessibility position. This statement covers this website only.

This site is built for current versions of Chrome, Edge, Firefox, and Safari, on desktop and mobile, with the assistive technology those browsers support. Older browsers get a site that is plainer — the land stops drifting and the pinned sequence becomes three still photographs — but complete: no content or function depends on those effects.
